Best Quran & Prayer Apps 2026 — to understand your salah

Five iPhone apps for the Quran, prayer times and the words of the prayer — compared honestly, including our own with full disclosure.

Last updated October 2026 · ratings checked on the US App Store at time of writing

Overview

How we chose these apps

Most Muslim apps answer one of three questions: when to pray, which way to face, and what the Quran says. Fewer help with a quieter question many people carry for years — what do the words I say in every prayer actually mean? This guide covers five iPhone apps worth installing in 2026 and who each one is really for.

We looked at what matters in daily use, not what looks good on a store page:

None of these apps replaces a teacher, an imam or your community. App descriptions below are summarized from each app's public App Store listing at time of writing, October 2026.

The List

5 Quran & prayer apps for iPhone in 2026

01

Sakinah — Best for Understanding the Words of Your Salah (Our App, Full Disclosure)

Disclosure. Sakinah is built by Loveiko Labs — the studio publishing this article. We list it first for one specific need: understanding what you say in prayer. If you want the full Quran or a long track record, see #2 and #3.

What it is. An app that explains the salah you already know by heart — Al-Fatiha verse by verse, the words of the prayer (takbir, ruku, sujud, tashahhud, salawat, taslim, the opening supplication and seeking refuge) and 15 short surahs — one phrase at a time, in the order you pray. Each phrase has the Arabic text, its meaning and a simple explanation, with recitation by Mishary Rashid Alafasy and each word highlighted as it is read.

Best for. People who pray daily but don't speak Arabic; parents who want to explain the prayer to their children.

Strengths. One phrase before a prayer, one short question after — no tests, no streaks. Prayer times calculated on your phone (country method, standard or Hanafi Asr, or your mosque's times) and a qibla on a compass or through the camera. An AI guide for questions about words from your lessons that shows what its answer is based on. Kids' version, Family Sharing, no ads, no account. Prayer times and qibla stay free if your plan ends.

Limitations. Released October 2026 — no App Store ratings yet. Not a full Quran app. Explains words, not movements. Subscription: $7.99/week after a 7-day free trial, or $39.99/year. It does not judge your prayer or pronunciation and does not give fatwas.

02

Quran by Quran.com — Best Free Full Quran

What it is. A free, ad-free mushaf app from Quran Foundation, Inc. for reading, memorizing and listening to the Quran, with translations including The Clear Quran by Dr. Mustafa Khattab, multiple reciters and several mushaf layouts.

Best for. Anyone who wants to read or listen to the whole Quran with translations, without ads or a subscription.

Strengths. 4.9★ from about 33K ratings at time of writing, October 2026. Free and ad-free. Adjustable playback speed, verse looping, bookmarks and notes. Open source.

Limitations. A Quran app, not a prayer app — prayer times and qibla are not listed. It does not walk you through the words of salah in prayer order.

03

Muslim Pro — Best All-in-One Muslim App

What it is. A large all-in-one app from Bitsmedia Pte Ltd: prayer times and Athan notifications, the full Quran with recitations and translations, qibla, Hijri calendar, duas and dhikr with a tasbih counter, a prayer and fasting tracker, and a halal restaurant and prayer space finder.

Best for. People who want one app for nearly every daily Islamic need, backed by a very large user base.

Strengths. 4.7★ from about 600K ratings at time of writing, October 2026. Broad feature set and many interface languages.

Limitations. Free to download, but many features sit behind paid tiers, and an ad-removal purchase is offered. A breadth-first app — a phrase-by-phrase explanation of the words of salah is not listed. Streaks and gamified quests may not suit everyone.

Salah 3D — Best for Learning the Movements of the Prayer

What it is. A step-by-step prayer guide with 3D animation of each position, wudu guidance, audio of the Arabic passages when you tap the words, transliteration and English translations, covering the five daily prayers.

Best for. Beginners, converts and children learning how to pray, and anyone refreshing their practice.

Strengths. Shows the movements visually, which none of the other apps here focus on. Low one-time price: free to download, with the full guide as a $2.99 in-app purchase.

Limitations. 4.2★ from 21 ratings at time of writing, October 2026 — a small review base. Prayer times, qibla and the full Quran are not listed. As with any how-to-pray app, details can differ between schools; check with your teacher.

How we judged

Which app fits your situation

An honest guide does not put the publisher's app first without saying why. Here is where each app genuinely wins — including the cases where ours is not the right pick. Ratings and review counts were checked on the US App Store in October 2026.

What none of these apps do

None of these apps — including ours — replaces a teacher, an imam or your community. Sakinah states plainly that it explains the meaning of the words and does not judge your prayer or your pronunciation, and does not give fatwas.

Calculated prayer times depend on the method you choose. If your local mosque follows different times, follow your mosque; some apps, including Sakinah, let you enter your mosque's times.

Many people use two apps: one for the full Quran, and one for prayer times or for understanding the prayer. That is a perfectly good setup.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Why is your own app listed first?

Sakinah is the only app in this list built around explaining the meaning of the words you recite in salah, phrase by phrase, in the order you pray. It is also the newest app here, released in October 2026 with no ratings yet, and it is not a full Quran app. If you want the full Quran or a long track record, Quran.com and Muslim Pro are the stronger picks.

What is the best free Quran app?

Quran by Quran.com is free and ad-free according to its App Store listing, with translations and multiple reciters. Muslim Pro and Pillars are free to download with paid upgrades.

Which app helps me understand the meaning of my prayer?

Sakinah explains Al-Fatiha, the words of the prayer and 15 short surahs one phrase at a time, with the Arabic text, its meaning and a simple explanation. Salah 3D includes English translations and transliteration inside its step-by-step guide.

Which app is best for learning how to pray step by step?

Salah 3D is built for that: a step-by-step guide with 3D animation of the prayer and wudu guidance, aimed at beginners, converts and children. Sakinah explains the words, not the movements. For the details of practice, learn from a teacher in your community.

Can a prayer app tell me if my prayer or recitation is correct?

None of the apps in this guide claims to judge whether your prayer is valid. Sakinah states clearly that it does not judge your prayer or pronunciation and does not give fatwas. For practice and rulings, follow your teacher and your community.

Which app is best for prayer times without ads?

Pillars describes itself as ad-free and privacy-focused, with multiple calculation methods and early or late Asr. Sakinah also has no ads and calculates prayer times on your phone, and its prayer times and qibla stay free if your plan ends.

You already know the words — now understand each one.
